If Chambolle Musigny should represent the apogee of refinement and weightlessness in Pinot Noir, then François Bertheau’s wines are surely the epitome of that style. From his small cellar in the centre of the village, Bertheau quietly crafts some of the most beautiful lace-spun wines in the appellation. François’ range spans the entire Chambolle hierarchy from Bourgogne, Chambolle AC, Chambolle 1er Cru (made from Groseilles, Gruenchers, Noirots and Baudes); then two single vineyard 1ers: Charmes and Amoureuses and finally Bonnes Mares Grand Cru. François has made beautiful translations of the 2019 growing season, displaying all the purity and fruit of the year. Finesse, elegance, high-toned aromatics, and silky textures; signature Bertheau. They will offer immense pleasure over time. However, quantities are 45-50% down.
