Residing in the lieu-dit of Côte Rozier, Billon has flown under the radar for far too long. Whilst working at Guigal, Christophe and his wife Maryline began bottling a very small percentage of their own wines way back in 1991, selling the bulk of his crop to his employer. Finally, in 2008, Christophe dedicated himself full-time to his own estate and his son, Corentin, joined his father in 2015. As Chambeyron, we signed this estate to watch its progress because frankly their vineyards are simply too good to ignore. However, we weren’t quite expecting – with our first purchase order – the rave reviews that immediately followed; we’ve never bought Côte Rôtie accompanied by such fanfare. John Livingstone-Learmonth adores the 2015s here (giving the Rozier a whopping six stars!) whilst Jeb Dunnuck described the same range as “a sensational line-up of wines”, drooling about the 2015 Brocarde; “pure, layered and downright silky, it’s a brilliant wine”. Both have subsequently followed with very strong reviews of Christophe’s flourishing 2016s too.
